Solik Nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year

FRANKLIN, Ind. (June 20, 2017) –  Regina Solik, a 2017 Franklin College graduate, has been nominated for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

A four-year standout on the Grizzlies' women's swimming and diving team, Solik is the most accomplished swimmer in the history of the Franklin College swimming and diving program. In addition to her various service projects in the community and tutoring duties on campus, Solik also successfully graduated with honors last month and has been named as an Academic All-American by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America by way of her combined NCAA Nationals qualification and scholarly grade point average.

Solik embodies the spirit of the NCAA Woman of the Year Award, which recognizes excellence in academics, athletics and service and leadership. The award is presented annually to a recently graduated student-athlete from either a NCAA Division I, II or III school.
A former standout at Cascade High School (Ind.), this season Solik became the first female swimmer in Franklin College history to qualify for the NCAA Div. III National Championships. She is the team record holder in the 50-yard freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay. She holds the six fastest times in school history in the 50 freestyle as well as nine of the top 10 and the six fastest times in school history in the 100 freestyle. In total, she has broken school records 19 times.
During her career at Franklin, the women's team has been named as an Academic All-American team every year and has also won the Heartland Conference Invitational every year. She was part of the first gold medal-winning relay in Franklin College history at the 2016 Liberal Arts Championships and added gold medals in three relays at the 2017 Liberal Arts Championships. Along with her gold medal individual performances in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, she helped lead the Franklin women to their first ever Liberal Arts Championship in 2017.

Solik was a double major in Spanish and Mathematics. She has traveled abroad multiple times and balanced those endeavors with her goals in the pool and as a teammate. She is an outstanding student, having earned several academic accolades, including three-time academic all-conference, Chi Alpha Sigma honors, President's List, Dean's List and other academic scholarships and honors. Though a double major, she is one of only a few females to take on the rigor of an Applied Mathematics degree from Franklin College and excel.
