DEFIANCE, Ohio – The start of conference play proved to be just what the Franklin women's soccer team needed, as the Grizzlies rolled to a 4-0 win over Defaince on Saturday (Oct. 5) afternoon.

A pair of Grizzly (1-9-1, 1-0 HCAC) freshman paced the offensive attack, with Elaina Page and Lilly Haines teaming up for a combined nine points on the afternoon. Page had a breakout game on the attack, scoring the first three goals of her career with Haines adding another tally and handing out an assist.

It was a dominant offensive performance by the Grizzlies, who attempted 23 shots to seven for the Yellow Jackets (4-7-1, 0-1 HCAC).

It was all Grizzlies early on as Franklin set up shop in the Defiance offensive zone early. After the team's first four shot attempts went wide, Page put the Grizzlies on the board when she gathered in a loose ball, dribbled around the Defiance keeper and put the ball into a wide-open net at the 14:57 mark.

Page struck again in the 27th minute, burying her second goal of the day and four minutes later, Haines had her second goal of the year when she took a Taylor McDaniel pass and hit paydirt to make it a 3-0 game.

Cicero, Ind.-native Page completed the hat trick in the 66th minute, taking a Haines pass and firing it into the top corner of the net to complete the scoring. Page and Haines tied for the team lead with four shots on target while McDaniel's six attempts were most among all attackers. Those three plus Erin Thomas combined for 20 shot attempts and 12 shots on goal.

Senior goalkeeper Lexi Short was called on only three times on Saturday, but came up with saves each time to earn her second clean sheet of the year and 20th of her career.

The Grizzlies wrap up a long five-game road trip on Wednesday (Oct. 9) night when they take on Hanover. Kick-off from Hanover is set for 5:00 p.m.
