DANVILLE, Ky. – The Franklin College women's soccer team continued a season-long five-match road swing on Tuesday (Sept. 24) night, taking on the winners of 31 straight regular season contests, the #14-ranked Centre Colonels.
Senior Taylor McDaniel potted a late first half goal for the Grizzlies (0-8-1) and Lexi Short turned aside 10 shots in goal. But the Colonels (10-0) netted the game's first three goals, paving the way for what ended up being a 5-1 victory.
Under fire early, Short kept the game scoreless with four saves in the opening eight minutes before the Colonels connected for goals in the ninth, 18th and 26th minutes, respectively. With time winding down in the first half, McDaniel gathered in a loose ball and fired a shot past Centre keeper Jonelle Barron to get the Grizzlies on the board heading into the half.
But the Colonels snatched momentum right back with two early second half goals, squashing any attempt at a Franklin comeback.
The Grizzlies continue their road trip and wrap up non-conference play next Tuesday (Oct. 1) night, heading to Springfield, Ohio to take on the Tigers of Wittenberg University. Start time is set for 7:00 p.m.
