FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin College women's soccer team continued their recent hot streak on Saturday, blanking Anderson University for their third straight win.
Maddie Fleet scored a pair of goals for the Grizzlies (7-6-1, 4-1 HCAC), netting one in the opening minutes of each half. Rachel Hawkins added an insurance goal late in the second half for Franklin, as they handed Anderson (5-3-4, 2-1-2 HCAC) their first conference loss of the year.
Fleet wasted no time getting Franklin on the board, scoring on the first shot of the game just 2:52 in to get the Grizzlies off and running. Cayla Crawford was credited with an assist on the goal, her second helper of the year. Each team attempted five shots the rest of the half, but neither could find the net and Franklin took a one-goal lead into the break.
Just 18 seconds into the second half, Fleet doubled the Franklin lead when she took a feed from Emma Myers and slid a shot past Anderson goalkeeper Allyson Saylor for her 18th goal of the year and 92nd for her career. Hawkins put an exclamation point on the win in the 83rd minute, gathering in a ball from Myers and firing a shot past Saylor for her second of the year.
Shots were 15-11 on the night in favor of the Grizzlies with Franklin also holding a 9-6 edge in shots on goal. Lexi Short turned aside all six Raven shots, recording her second clean sheet of the year.
Franklin is back in action on Wednesday (Oct. 17) night, when they welcome Rose-Hulman to Faught Stadium for an HCAC clash. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
