CINCINNATI, Ohio – In a showdown of two of the top teams in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC), the Franklin College women's soccer was in search of their eighth straight win on Saturday afternoon against Mt. St. Joseph.

Junior Maddie Fleet potted her team-leading 12th goal of the year early in the first half, but the Grizzlies were unable to overcome an offensive onslaught from the Lions, falling 3-1 to see their winning streak come to an end.

Franklin found themselves down by a goal just 49 seconds into the game on a goal from Morgan Knasel. The Grizzlies drew even in the 15th minute when Fleet buried a shot from in close, giving her at least one goal in seven of the team's last eight games.

Fleet nearly put the Grizzlies in front three minutes later, but her attempt was stoned by MSJ goalkeeper Michelle Hessling. Five minutes after Fleet's chance, the Lions re-claimed the lead for good when Stefanie Autenreib put home a corner kick to make it 2-1.

Fleet nearly evened up the match in the 51st minute but her attempt was turned aside by Hessling. Jalynn Gorman had a chance to get things all square in the 58th minute, but her attempt off a corner kick went just over the crossbar.

The Lions capped the scoring in the 63rd minute on Knasel's second tally of the day, giving the hosts a much-needed insurance marker.

MSJ finished the night with a 25-12 advantage in shot attempts and a 13-8 edge in shots on goal. Lexi Short hit double digits in saves for the third time this year, stopping 10 shots on the night. At the other end of the field, Hessling made seven saves for the Lions.

Franklin looks to start a new winning streak this coming Wednesday (Oct. 18) night, when the Grizzlies welcome Transylvania to Faught Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
