Franklin, Ind. - Franklin College sophomore Maddie Fleet scored four goals to propel the women's soccer team to a 4-0 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) victory against Earlham College during Senior Night on Saturday from Faught Stadium.
Seniors Audra Lane and Kelsie Williams were honored pregame for their contributions to the program. The seniors helped lead the Grizzlies a HCAC regular-season championship in 2015 and consecutive appearances in the conference tournament championship match in 2015 and 2014.
Franklin (13-3, 6-1 HCAC) remains in a four-way tie for first place in the conference standings with 18 points. The team hosts Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Wednesday, October 26 at 7:30 p.m. in a matchup featuring two of those four teams. Hanover College and Mount St. Joseph University are also tied for first place with 6-1 league records.
Fleet scored her first goal of the match in the 23rd minute after receiving passes from freshman Taylor McDaniel and junior Clare Lenart. Franklin took a 2-0 lead on a goal by Fleet in the 35th minute.
Fleet scored goals in the 66th and 77th minutes to cap her strong offensive performance. She has scored 24 goals on the season.
Franklin recorded 28 of the 30 shots in the match, led by Fleet with seven shots. Lenart attempted six shots, while junior Abby Stayer and McDaniel each registered three shots.
Freshman goalkeeper Lexi Short made one save during her 89 minutes of action. She came in the match after Williams earned the start during Senior Night and appeared in her first match of the season.
