Bluffton, Ohio - Six different players found the back of the net as the Franklin College women's soccer team earned a 7-1 road Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) victory against Bluffton University on Saturday.
The Grizzlies (10-2, 3-0 HCAC) have won seven consecutive matches and have scored seven or more goals in two of their last three matches.
Freshman Taylor McDaniel scored two goals to lead the team's offensive attack. Sophomore Maddie Fleet scored one goal and added three assists. Junior Clare Lenart added one goal and two assists in the victory.
Junior Jillian Lawrence gave the visitors an early lead with a goal in the fourth minute after receiving a pass from Lenart. Franklin took a 2-0 lead in the 13th minute on the 16th goal of the season from Fleet on an assist from Lenart.
McDaniel found the back of the net for the first time in the 25th minute after Fleet set up the scoring chance. The Grizzlies led 3-0 at intermission after holding an 11-0 shot edge in the first 45 minutes.
In the second half, junior Haley Lowe scored her eighth goal of the season in the 53rd minute to extend the margin to 4-0. McDaniel gave the Grizzlies a 5-0 lead in the 58th minute to cap her strong offensive outing.
Junior Bret Roberts and Lenart rounded out the goal scorers for Franklin in the 60th and 73rd minutes respectively.
Franklin held a 29-4 shot advantage and had eight of the nine corner kicks in the match. Lenart recorded a match-high seven shots, while Fleet tallied six shots. Roberts added five shots in the victory.
Franklin returns to action on Wednesday, October 12 at 4 p.m. when it travels to Manchester University.
