Quick Striking Women’s Soccer Defeats Hanover

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's soccer team scored in the opening minute and added another tally midway through the first half to pick up a 2-0 victory against Hanover College on Wednesday in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action from Faught Stadium.

Sophomore Maddie Fleet found the back of the net 55 seconds into the match to give the hosts the early lead. Junior Clare Lenart dribbled down the left end line before finding Fleet in front of the goal. Fleet, the reigning HCAC Player of the Week, tallied her 15th goal of the season.

Later, the Grizzlies (9-2, 2-0 HCAC) took a 2-0 lead on a goal from junior Haley Lowe in the 26th minute. Fleet set up the scoring chance off a left corner kick to increase her lead among NCAA Division III players with 43 points (15 goals; 13 assists).

Franklin, ranked fourth in the Great Lakes region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, held a 15-7 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks. Fleet led the attack with seven shots, while freshman Jalynn Gorman added three shots. Lenart and Lowe each recorded two shots in the victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Lexi Short made three saves in recording his fourth shutout of the season.

Franklin returns to action on Saturday, October 8 at 1 p.m. when it travels to Bluffton University.
