Franklin, Ind. - Three first-half goals led the Franklin College women's soccer team to a decisive 7-0 victory against Defiance College on Saturday at Faught Stadium in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) opener for both teams.
Freshman Jalynn Gorman scored her fourth goal of the season to give the hosts a 2-0 advantage in the 27th minute.
Fleet later capped the team's first-half scoring with a goal in the 35th minute.
Then, Franklin (8-2, 1-0 HCAC) tallied two goals in the first 12 minutes of the second half to build a 5-0 advantage. Junior Jillian Lawrence scored the first goal in the 50th minute on an assist from Fleet. Then, Fleet scored two goals between the 57th and 61st minutes of the match. Junior Haley Lowe rounded out the team's scoring with a goal in the 84th minute.
Freshman goalkeeper Lexi Short tallied her third shutout of the season and made one save in the match.
Franklin held a 28-3 shot advantage in the match, with 16 shots being on goal.
The Grizzlies return to action on Wednesday, October 5 at 7:30 p.m. when it hosts Hanover College from Faught Stadium.
