Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's soccer team won its third consecutive match, defeating Spalding University 2-0 on Sunday from Faught Stadium. Sophomore Maddie Fleet scored both goals for the Grizzlies.
Fleet found the back of the net in the 27th minute after receiving a pass from freshman Taylor McDaniel. She later scored in the 74th minute to give the hosts an insurance goal. Fleet tallied her ninth goal of the season after being set up by junior Clare Lenart and sophomore Olivia Fisher.
Franklin (6-2) held a 22-7 shot advantage in the match and attempted 11 shots in each period. Fleet led the effort with nine shots, including four shots on goal. Fisher attempted three shots, while juniors Kelsey Brunsman and Jillian Lawrence joined Lenart in each recording two shots in the victory.
Freshman goalkeeper Lexi Short made four saves in recording her second shutout of the season.
Franklin returns to action on Saturday, September 24 at 1 p.m. when it travels to Berea College in the non-conference finale.
