Women’s Soccer Loses First Match of 2016

Dallas, Pa. - The Franklin College women's soccer team scored a first-half goal, but could not hold onto the halftime lead in a 2-1 loss to Buffalo State University on Saturday afternoon. The Grizzlies lost their first match of the 2016 season after opening the fall campaign with three victories.

Saturday's match was the Misericordia Tournament opener for both teams. Franklin plays Rochester Institute of Technology on Sunday, September 11 at noon.

Junior Clare Lenart scored midway through the first half to give the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead. Franklin nearly took a 2-0 advantage in the second half as a shot by sophomore Maddie Fleet hit the crossbar.

Buffalo State (3-1) squared the contest on an unassisted goal from Catherine Mammoser in the 59th minute. The team scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 72nd minute on a goal from Jenna Smolinski.

Lenart and Fleet each attempted four shots to lead Franklin's offensive attack.
