HANOVER, Ind. – The Franklin College women's lacrosse team opened Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) play on Friday (Mar. 9) afternoon, taking on the Hanover Panthers in the team's first road contest of the year.

Senior Jess Silva potted her first hat trick of the year and fellow senior Abby Stayer netted two goals. But the Grizzlies (0-2, 0-1 ORLC) fell into an early hole that proved too big to overcome in a 13-5 loss to the Panthers (2-2, 1-0 ORLC).

The Panthers struck for their first goal of the game less than a minute in, jumping out to a 6-0 lead before Silva's first goal of the year got the Grizzlies on the board with 8:21 to go in the opening half. The Grizzlies would start to stir late in the first half, but headed into the break trailing 7-1.

Hanover opened the second half with four straight goals to stretch the lead to double figures. Stayer and Silva would cut the lead to 11-3 with back-to-back goals less than three minutes apart. The two teams would trade goals down the stretch, with Stayer potting her second with 10:50 left and Silva completing the hat trick with 1:23 to go.

Stayer led the Grizzlies with four points, adding assists on two of Silva's goals. Silva led the Grizzlies with five shots and four shots on goal. Haley Lowe's five ground balls led all Franklin players while Morgan McIntosh scooped up four ground balls on the day.

In goal, Courtney Jones finished with 11 saves in relief of Abbey Voss, who started the game and turned aside five Hanover attempts.

The Grizzlies will be off for the next two weeks before opening a three-game homestand on Friday, Mar. 23, when they welcome Waynesburg to Faught Stadium for an ORLC showdown. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m.
