CARMEL, Ind. – With the regular season set to tee off this coming weekend, the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) released its pre-season women's golf rankings on Monday (Aug. 26) morning, signifying the start of the championship season.
Franklin returns three regulars from last year's top-five and seven players total for the 2019-20 season. The Grizzlies finished in a tie for sixth in the pre-season rankings, picking up 41 points to equal Manchester's total.
A trio of juniors in Megg Hensler, Jaley Schlosser and Mackenzie Black were joined by sophomore Maci French on the league's list of "Players to Watch" for the upcoming year. Madison, Ind.-native Hensler made major strides a year ago, earning three top-10 finishes along the way. Her best performance of the year came at the Bluffton Beaver Invitational on Sept. 22-23, where she tied for second overall and fired a career-low round of 78 on day two of the tournament.
A mainstay in the Franklin lineup for the last two years, Evansville, Ind.-native Schlosser carded a scoring average of 91.5 a year ago while earning a career-best 15th-place finish at the Beaver Invitational. A two-time Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Academic All-America selection, Versailles, Ind.-native Black looks to establish herself as a mainstay in the FC lineup this year. French joined the program last spring and took part in four events for the Grizzlies as a freshman.
Transylvania was selected to repeat as league champions, picking up 87 points and six first place votes to finish just ahead of Rose-Hulman. The rest of the pre-season rankings can be found below.
Franklin opens the fall season on Saturday, Aug. 31 for day one of the Mount St. Joseph Invitational at Miami Whitewater Forest Golf Course in Harrison, Ohio.
