LIBERTY, Ind. – Senior Keely Townsend was named to the Heartland Collegite Athletic Conference (HCAC) All-League Team after collecting an eighth-place finish on Sunday at the 2018 HCAC Championships.
The Muncie, Ind.-native fought off frigid temperatures to collect her first All-Conference selection with a two-round score of 166 (80-86). Townsend finished the event with 17 pars, the fourth most among all players on her way to becoming the first Grizzly to be named all-conference since Paige Lundy in 2016. It marks the second straight year Townsend led the way for Franklin at the conference championships.
Sophomore Jaley Scholsser finished second on the Franklin leaderboard and tied for 21st overall with a 178 (86-92). Fellow sophomore Megg Hensler finished 29th overall at her second conference championship, firing a 188 (95-93). Senior Hannah Sharkey placed 33rd overall with a 199 (105-94) and Mackenzie Black finished 41st with a 225 (111-114) to round out the FC lineup.
Transylvania University collected their second straight conference championship, firing a 640 (313-327) to win by 11 shots over second-place Rose-Hulman. Franklin finished the event in seventh place with a two-day score of 731 (366-365).
Following the event, the league released its All-Sportsmanship Team, chosen by the conference coaches. Franklin freshman Avery Auton was the Grizzlies' recipient of this year's award.
