FRANKLIN – The Franklin College women's golf team opens up post-season play on Saturday afternoon with round one of the 2017 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Championships hosted by Transylvania University at Keene Run Golf Course in Nicholasville, Ky.
The nine-team field will play round one on Saturday before wrapping up the event on Sunday afternoon.
The Grizzlies will send the five-some of Hannah White, Keely Townsend, Megg Hensler, Jaley Schlosser and Hannah Sharkey to Kentucky. Townsend enters the weekend as the Grizzlies' top performer this fall and carries a team-leading average of 88.4 into play. The Grizzlies' low round of the fall went to their No. 1 player this weekend, as White carded a 79 on round one of the Hanover Invitational back on Sept. 9.
Franklin leads all HCAC institutions with 10 team championships and 10 individual tournament winners since the event's inception back in 1997. Franklin head coach Roger Lundy has claimed five HCAC Coach of the Year honors, four of those coming during his time with the Grizzlies.
Hanover College enters the weekend as the four-time defending champions. Last year, the Panthers won the event by 12 shots over Rose-Hulman with Franklin placing third overall, 14 shots off the pace. Transylvania's Meredith Moir is the individual favorite heading into the weekend, carrying a league-low 78.1 scoring average into tournament play.
