MARSHALL, Mich. – The Franklin women's golf team teed it up for their first tournament of the year, traveling to The Medalist Golf Club for the Olivet Labor Day Tee Off, hosted by Olivet College.
The young Grizzlies finished day one in fifth place and that's where they would stay after shaving 24 shots off their score on day two, finishing with a team total of 782 (403-379).
Freshman Megg Hensler paced the Grizzlies in her first collegiate event. The Madison, Ind.-native earned a share of 23rd place after carding a 187 (93-94) for the event. Not far behind her was senior Hannah White, who brought home a 28th place finish with a 196 (97-99).
Junior Keely Townsend's day two score was the lowest among all FC players for the weekend. Townsend finished with a score of 200 (113-87), good for 30th place. Freshman Jaley Schlosser took 32nd with a 206 (107-99) and senior Mary Tingle finished in 33rd place with a 220 (106-114).
St. Mary's College took home the team title, carding a score of 650 (333-317) to best runner-up Rose Hulman by 15 shots. Medalist honors went to Hanover's Maddison Cody, whose 154 (79-75) earned her a four-shot win.
The Grizzlies hit the links against next weekend, heading to Madison, Ind. for round one of the Hanover Invitational at Sunrise Golf Club.
