CARMEL, Ind. - For the first time in her career, Franklin College forward Bayleigh Walker has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Player of the Week after the weekly honor was handed out on Monday (Jan. 6) afternoon.
The Plainfield, Ind.-native led the Grizzlies in scoring in all three games over the last two weeks, averaging 22 points, four rebounds and three assists per game while shooting 46% from the floor as Franklin claimed wins over Salve Regina, Framingham State and Defiance.
In the first of two straight games in Florida, she topped all players with 17 points in Franklin's blowout win over Salve Regina back on Dec. 28. One day later, she turned in a career-best performance with a personal best 31 points on 13 field goals, potting 19 points in the second half along as Franklin was able to rally from behind to knock off Framingham State down in Dayton Beach, Fla.
The turn of the new year brought more of the same for Walker, as she poured in 16 of her team-high 18 points in the second half in a 77-64 win over Defiance last Saturday (Jan. 4) in the Grizzlies' return to conference play. It marked the seventh straight game Walker hit double figures in points and she becomes the first Grizzly to earn the HCAC's weekly honor since Katie Brewer on Dec. 1, 2014.
The Grizzlies look for their fourth straight win on Wednesday (Jan. 8) night, when they hit the road for a meeting with HCAC co-leader and No. 15-ranked Transylvania. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
