RECAP | Big First Half Run Paves Way for Win Over Anderson

ANDERSON, Ind. – Fueled by a big first half run, the Franklin College women's basketball team snapped a two-game slide on Wednesday (Jan. 24) night with an emphatic 71-47 win over Anderson.

Bayleigh Walker led the Grizzlies (5-12, 4-7 HCAC) with 13 points on the night while Erin Bradley and Emiley Carlton added 10 points each in support. Every Grizzly to step on the floor found their way onto the score sheet on Wednesday night, as Franklin rolled to a season sweep of the Ravens (0-18, 0-11 HCAC).

Leading 9-7 late in the first quarter, Franklin went on a run that would ultimately decide the game. The Grizzlies scored the game's next 29 points, holding the Ravens without a point for a stretch of 11:29 of game time to blow the game open and make it 38-7 before Anderson stopped the run with a pair of free throws.

The Grizzlies shot 44.4 percent (16-for-36) from the field in the opening half, knocking down five three-pointers to take a 42-18 lead into the intermission.

Franklin continued to pour it on with an 11-2 run to open the second half. The Grizzlies took their largest lead of the night with a Walker layup that made it 61-25 with 1:24 to go in the third quarter. That would be more than enough cushion for the Grizzlies to cruise to victory.

The Grizzlies shot 40.8 percent (29-for-71) from the floor, knocking down 5-of-11 three-pointers and 8-of-11 free throw attempts. Defensively, the Grizzlies bottled up the hosts, holding the Ravens to just 32.6 percent (14-for-43) shooting on the night.

Walker led the Grizzlies with nine boards as Franklin finished the night with a 46-32 advantage on the glass. Franklin forced a season-high 34 turnovers on Wednesday night, recording 40 points off Anderson mistakes.

The Franklin bench got into the act in a big way on Wednesday night, chipping in 35 points.

Next up for the Grizzlies is a showdown on Saturday (Jan. 27) afternoon with the Defiance Yellow Jackets on Alumni Day for the women's basketball program. Franklin will be in search of another season sweep, taking the first matchup between the two teams 73-61 back on Dec. 9 in Ohio. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
