DEFIANCE, OH. (December 3, 2016) – Franklin College women's basketball defeats Defiance College 69-57 on the road in the HCAC opener on Saturday Dec. 3.
The Grizzlies gained an early lead on the Yellow Jackets that they never gave up, earning them a 1-0 start to the conference season. Franklin featured a balanced scoring attack finishing with three starters in double figures. Leading the way was senior Lauren DeSutter (Pittsboro, Ind. / Tri-West) with a team high 16 points and 6 rebounds. Junior Riley Achenbach (Shelbyville, Ind. / Shelbyville) and senior Sarah Taylor (Fishers, Ind. / Fishers) also tallied 12 and 11 points for Franklin.
Ball control and a strong defensive effort seemed to make the difference for the Grizzlies who recorded only 11 turnovers compared to Defiance's 24.
The Yellow Jackets were led once again by the leading scorer and rebounder for the HCAC, Kelsey Tietje. Tietje finished the game with 22 points shooting 10-13 from the field and also added 14 rebounds. Brittany Osborne came off the bench for Defiance shooting a perfect 4-4 from the field ending with 10 points.
Women's basketball hits the road again next Wednesday, Dec. 7 as they look to continue their two game winning streak against Rose-Hulman starting at 7:30 pm.
