Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's basketball team puts its 2-1 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) record on the line on Saturday, January 4, with a home game against Earlham College from the Spurlock Center.
The Grizzlies stand 4-6 on the season and will be playing for the first time since picking up an 89-59 win at Alma College on December 20. The 89 points were a season high.
Franklin will be playing its seventh home game (3-3) this season. The women's basketball program leads all NCAA Division III teams in accumulated season attendance. The team ranks second in average attendance, tallying 950 fans per home game this winter.
Individually, sophomore Katie Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) leads the team with 13.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. The forward leads the HCAC with 23 blocks. Brewer is averaging 18.3 points and 11.3 rebounds in the three conference games.
Freshman Lauren DeSutter (Pittsboro, Ind./Tri-West) has made a team-best 19 three-point field goals. She ranks second on the team in scoring at 10.1 points per contest. Junior Lindsey Dall (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) is averaging 8.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Junior Nichole Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) is coming off a double-double performance at Alma with 15 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.
Earlham stands 5-5 on the season and is 1-2 in HCAC play. The Quakers have won three straight games, including a 91-74 road win over Brescia on December 28. Kasin Spay leads the team at 18.3 points per game and has been the team's leading scorer in six of the 10 games this season. The team is averaging 72.9 points a game.
