CARMEL, Ind. – A pair of Franklin student-athletes collected weekly conference awards from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) on Tuesday (Nov. 26) afternoon when the league announced the recipients of the Swimmers & Divers of the Week.
Junior Brynna Sentel claimed her second HCAC Swimmer of the Week this year and the sixth of her career after while freshman Collin Barton was the league's male Diver of the Week for the first time in his brief stint with the program.
Sentel took part in four individual events and was part of four relay teams for Franklin at last weekend's Wabash Gail Moll Pebworth Invitational, capturing first-place finishes in four of those events. The Sullivan, Ill.-native was victorious in the 1650 freestyle, setting a new nation-best time in the event at 17:06.79. Earlier in the weekend, she claimed first place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:58.76 and would take second in the 200 free (1:52.96) and third in the 100 backstroke (58.06).
In the relays, she was part of winning foursomes in the 200 freestyle (1:36.49) and the 400 freestyle (3:32.03). She also took part in the 200 medley relay (1:47.44) 800 freestyle relay (7:58.92) teams that placed second and fifth, respectively.
Barton was the lone Grizzly to compete on both boards over the weekend, picking up a pair of top-four finishes against competition from Divisions II and III. On day two of the event, the Greenwood, Ind.-native earned a fourth-place finish on the one-meter board with 377.70 points. One day later, his 398.90 point performance on the three-meter board was good for a runner-up finish.
Both Franklin swimming and diving teams are off until Friday, Dec. 6, when they head to Anderson, Ind. for a dual competition against conference foe Anderson. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m.
