CARMEL, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) released its pre-season rankings for the upcoming swimming and diving seasons. Coming off a clean sweep of the conference championships a year ago, it's to no surprise both Franklin squads were picked to repeat as champions in 2019-20.
In the men's rankings, Franklin claimed five of the six first-place votes to earn 35 points, finishing ahead of second-place Rose-Hulman. The Grizzly men claimed their first conference championship one year ago, besting the then league-favorite Engineers on the final relay of the weekend.
On the women's side, Franklin was the unanimous decision to win the league after taking all six first-place votes to finish with 36 points. The Grizzly women rolled to their second straight HCAC championship one year ago and made program history by sending five swimmers to the NCAA Championships.
The league also released its annual list of athletes to watch for this year with six members from both Franklin squads recognized. For the men, senior James Hone (fly/back/free), senior Ben Doss (freestyle), junior Charlie Hall (fly/IM), junior Dylan Harker (breast/IM), freshman Shane O'Sullivan (free/fly) and freshman Gauge Creech (diving) making the list.
Among those recognized on the women's side were junior Brynna Sentel (free/back), junior Courtnee Coffman (free/back), junior Jacqueline Richard (free/fly), junior Ashley Snoke (breaststroke), freshman Caileigh McCafferty (fly/back/free) and freshman Faith Jackson (diving).
