INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Franklin College divers Will Combs and Lexi Blackburn have once again been chosen as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Divers of the Week.
For Indianapolis-native Combs, he earns his eighth Male Diver of the Week Award in 2018-19 following his performance on the board last Friday night against Rose-Hulman. He was victorious in the second round of dives off the one-meter board, earning 257.80 points. Earlier in the night, he picked up a second-place finish during round one off the one-meter, racking up 186.75 points.
Combs also officially qualified for the NCAA diving regional thanks to his performance during the second round of dives. He will be making his second straight appearance at the diving regional later this year.
Blackburn collected her seventh diver of the week award this year, helping the Grizzly women to a decisive 207-47 win over Rose-Hulman on Friday night. The Clayton, Ind.-native broke the school and HCAC open record for 11 dives on the one-meter board, claiming the first session of diving with 186.00 points. Later in the night, she blew past the rest of the field with 291.15 points, giving her another win and a total of 487.15 points on the night.
With their win over the Engineers, the Grizzlies move to 12-0 in dual competitions this year and are now unbeaten in 22 straight dual meets.
Both Franklin teams get back in the pool on Friday (Feb. 1) night, traveling to Bloomington, Ill. for their final duals of the year against Illinois Wesleyan. Competition begins at 6:00 p.m.
