FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin College softball team announced its 2019 schedule on Monday (Jan. 7) afternoon, which features 20 games set to take place at Behrens Field on Franklin's campus.
Coming off their first HCAC Tournament championship, first NCAA Regional appearance and first 30-win season, the Grizzlies open their season on Saturday, Feb. 23 in Maryville, Tenn. with meetings against Birmingham Southern and Maryville (Tenn.). Following a lengthy layoff, the Grizzlies make their home debut on Mar. 6, opening a 10-game homestand with two games against Berea College.
Franklin welcomes the first of four NCAA tournament qualifiers to town on Mar. 9 when Calvin College comes to town. Following double-headers against Captial (Mar. 16) and Alma (Mar. 17), the Grizzlies close out the homestand with two games against another tournament participant in St. Mary's College (Ind.) on Mar. 20.
The next week will see the Grizzlies jet off to Florida for eight games taking place from Mar. 23-27. When the Grizzlies arrive back in the Midwest, it will be just in time to close out the month of March with their first HCAC games of the year, which take place at home against Anderson on Mar. 29.
The final month of the regular season sees the Grizzlies play host to Rose-Hulman (Apr. 10), Transylvania (Apr. 17), Manchester (Apr. 20) and a non-conference double-header with a 2018 NCAA regional host in Hope College. Franklin will be on the road in April for games against Hanover (Apr. 3), Mount St. Joseph (Apr. 6), Bluffton (Apr. 13) and Defiance (Apr. 27).
The 2018 HCAC Tournament takes place from May 3-6 on the campus of the regular season champion with the winner earning the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament.
