Oakland City, Ind. - The Franklin College softball team picked up its 10th victory of the season in a 7-5 win in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader at Oakland City University. The Grizzlies bounced back after losing 12-3 in five innings in the opener.
Franklin (10-6) rallied from a 5-3 deficit by plating four runs in the sixth inning.
Junior Jessica Ayers (Frankfort, Ind./Frankfort), sophomore Katie Struewing (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) and freshman Jeana Gregory (Mooresville, Ind./Mooresville) each recorded multiple-hit efforts in the second game.
The Grizzlies plated two runs in the second inning and added another run in the fifth inning.
Oakland City responded with a five-run fifth inning to grab a 5-3 lead.
In the sixth inning, sophomores Michelle Murphy (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) and Cherish Selburg (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) and freshman Sara Thom (Mooresville, Ind./Monrovia) and Ayers each scored runs as the Grizzlies regained the lead.
In the first game, Oakland City scored three runs in the second inning before adding five more runs in the third inning. The early surge gave the NCAA Division II host a 10-2 lead. The team scored three more runs in the fifth inning.
Franklin plated two runs in the first inning as Ayers and Thom each scored. Struewing scored a run in the fifth inning.
The Grizzlies are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, March 23 at 1 p.m. when it hosts St. Mary-of-the-Woods College from Behrens Field.
