Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College softball team is scheduled to play six games this weekend, highlighted by home games against Calumet College of St. Joseph on Friday, March 21 at 3:30 p.m. and St. Mary-of-the-Woods College on Sunday, March 23 at 1 p.m. from Behrens Field.
The Grizzlies will travel to Oakland City University on Saturday, March 22 at 1 p.m.
The games against Calumet College are an addition to the original schedule for the season.
Franklin stands 8-4 on the season after recording a doubleheader sweep of Wilmington College last Saturday. This weekend's action is the final tune up before Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play begins on March 29 against defending tournament champion Anderson University.
The team is led by an offensive attack that has a .318 batting average and eight players hitting .308 or better for the season. Franklin is also 14-for-15 in stolen base attempts this spring.
Freshman Taylor Johnson (Beech Grove, Ind./Beech Grove) is this week's HCAC Hitter of the Week. The catcher hit two home runs and drove in nine runs in games against DePauw University and Wilmington last week. Johnson leads the team with a .421 batting average, two home runs and 11 RBI.
Sophomore Katie Struewing (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) is hitting at a .415 clip and has scored a team-best 11 runs. Classmate McKensie Vanosdol (North Vernon, Ind./Jennings County) is hitting .333 with nine runs batted in on the season.
Vanosdol is also a threat in the pitching circle with a 6-1 record and one save so far in 2014. She has 31 strikeouts and tossed two complete games. Freshman Bailey Lindamood (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) picked up her first collegiate pitching victory in the opener of the doubleheader against Wilmington.
