GREENWOOD, Ind. – Four members of the Franklin College men's tennis team collected all-conference recognition from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) on Tuesday (May 8) afternoon.
Senior Alex Hammer collected First Team All-HCAC honors while sophomore Blake Amonett and freshman Jacob Zachary were named to the league's second team. Senior Sam Godby was Franklin's representative on the league's All-Sportsmanship team.
Hammer collected his third career First Team All-HCAC honors after spending his senior season at the top of the Franklin lineup. The Greenwood, Ind.-native went 8-9 playing in the No. 1 singles spot while collecting a 10-7 record in doubles competition while teamed with Amonett. Hammer was named First Team All-HCAC in 2015 and 2017.
Indianapolis-native Amonett not only teamed with Hammer all year at the number one doubles tandem, but he racked up the most singles win on the Grizzlies in 2017-18. Amonett went 10-6 in singles competition, racking up nine wins from the two spot and winning his lone match as the top singles player for Franklin.
Zachary closed out his freshman year strong, going 8-10 overall in singles play, playing up and down the Franklin lineup. The Franklin-native closed out his debut campaign with three straight wins in single play, including a critical three-set win in the opening round of the HCAC Tournament against Manchester.
Godby spent the majority of the year patrolling the fourth and fifth spots in the lineup for Franklin, going 8-6 in singles competition. He had the most success playing out of the No. 5 spot, going 5-2 from that position.
