RECAP | Men's Tennis Wraps Up Fall Schedule with Win Over Oakland City

FRANKLIN – Playing for the final time in the fall, the Franklin College men's tennis team closed out their brief fall schedule in style on Sunday, downing Oakland City, 8-1.

The Grizzlies finish their four-game fall slate with a 3-1 record as they head into the winter.

In doubles play, the Grizzlies grabbed all three points to seize a lead they wouldn't relinquish. The top team of Alex Hammer and Blake Amonett were 8-3 winners while Zach Lester and Kyle Sauley fought for an 8-6 win as the number two team. The Grizzlies' final pair of Jake Zakery and Dean Elrod coasted to an 8-0 victory to close out team play.

In singles play, the Grizzlies took their final five points, all in straight sets. Amonett was a 6-2, 6-1 winner from the No. 2 spot while Sauley earned a 6-3, 6-2 win from the No. 3 spot to clinch the match.

Sam Godby grabbed a 6-3, 6-3 win, Jake Zakery cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win and Elrod was a 6-1, 6-1 winner as the Grizzlies 4-6 players closed out their fall in style.

Franklin will be off until Feb. 10, when they take on Cornell College and St. Ambrose in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
