FRANKLIN – The Franklin men's tennis team served it up for the first time this year on Saturday afternoon, hosting Midway College at Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.
The Grizzlies made it look easy in the opener, taking all three doubles matches and never looking back on their way to a 9-0 victory.
In doubles play, the Grizzlies' top duo of Alex Hammer and Blake Amonett came away with an 8-4 win. The team of Kyle Sauley and Jake Zakery emerged with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles, a score that was equaled by Sam Godby and Subin Bae in their triumph as the No. 3 tandem.
Hammer needed to go the distance with Hugo Retotillo in their No. 1 singles match, but the senior was able to come away with a three-set win, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 10-4. The rest of the Grizzlies wouldn't face as much trouble, with all winning in straight sets.
Amonett coasted to a pair of 6-0 wins as the No.2 singles player. Sauley and Zakery posted identical 6-0, 6-2 wins at the three and four spots. Godby was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at the five-spot and Bae cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 win to round out the lineup.
The Grizzlies will be back on the court on Sunday, Sept. 10, when they welcome Indiana-Southeast to Mickel-Hoover. First serve is set for noon.
