Indianapolis, Ind. - The Franklin College men's tennis team extended its winning streak to six matches with a 9-0 victory over rival Hanover College on Sunday evening in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action from the West Indy Racquet Club.
Franklin (7-5, 5-1 HCAC) quickly grabbed momentum of the match by sweeping all three doubles matches. The tandem of senior Robby Woehrle (Avon, Ind./Avon) and junior Arjun Bhalla (Nashik Maharashtra, India) dropped only three games in winning on the No. 3 doubles court. Senior Luke Snyder (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) teamed with sophomore Ethan Caldwell (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute North) to give the Grizzlies a 2-0 lead with an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, Snyder and Woehrle picked up 6-2, 6-1 victories on the No. 4 and 5 courts. Alex Hammer followed with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 3 singles. Bhalla earned a straight-set win at No. 6 singles.
Caldwell won a first-set tiebreaker 7-1 before dropping only one game in the second set to pick up a win on the No. 2 singles court.
Ryan Hammer earned a hard-fought three-set victory at No. 1 singles to round out the winners. He lost only two games in the opening set. Hanover's Brian Clark forced a deciding third-set tiebreaker with a 6-3 win in the second set. However, Ryan Hammer won the tiebreaker by a 10-7 score.
Franklin returns to action on Saturday, April 25 at noon when it travels to Defiance College. The Grizzlies also hosts Mount St. Joseph University in the regular-season finale on Sunday, April 26 at noon from the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.
