Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College men's tennis team picked up its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) victory with a 7-2 home triumph over Manchester University on Saturday from the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.
Franklin (3-5, 1-1 HCAC) took a 2-1 lead after a pair of 8-2 triumphs on the No. 2 and 3 doubles courts. The Grizzlies continued the momentum into singles, winning at five of the six positions.
Senior Luke Snyder (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) dropped only one game in winning on the No. 3 singles court. He teamed with freshman Kyle Sauley (Madison, Ind./Madison) at the No. 3 doubles position.
Senior Robby Woehrle (Avon, Ind./Avon) rebounded from dropping the opening set to win 6-4 in the deciding third frame. He partnered with junior Arjun Bhalla (Nashik Maharashtra, India) on the No. 2 doubles court.
Bhalla picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles. Sauley earned a straight-set triumph on the No. 6 singles court. Freshman Alex Hammer (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) rounded out the winners with a 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (7) victory at No. 2 singles.
Franklin is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, April 8 at 5 p.m. when it hosts Mount St. Joseph University from the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.
