Men’s Soccer Battles Wabash to 2-2 Draw in Season Opener

Crawfordsville, Ind. - Franklin College sophomore Luke Oliver found the back of the net in the 84th minute to square the match in a 2-2 draw at Wabash College in the 2016 season opener on Thursday.

All four goals scored in the match came in the second half.

Franklin broke the scoreless match with a goal from freshman Tyler Majeski in the 58th minute. Freshman Conrad Bomber set up the team's first goal of the season.

Wabash squared the match in the 64th minute on a goal by Gabriel Anguiano. The Little Giants took a 2-1 lead five minutes later after Nikola Kajmakowski successfully converted a penalty kick.

The visitors attempted three additional shots in the second half to tie the match. Then, Oliver drilled a free kick from the right side of the pitch for the equalizing goal.

Both teams were unable to find the back of the net through two scoreless 10-minute overtime periods.

Wabash held a 21-11 shot advantage, but had a slight 4-3 edge in shots on goal in the 110 minutes. Oliver led the Grizzlies with three shots. Freshman Zanawl Thang and Majeski each added two shots in the match.

Junior goalkeeper Garrett Belden made two saves for the Grizzlies in his second collegiate start.

Franklin returns to action on Sunday, September 4 when it begins play in the Labor Day Classic at Birmingham Southern College.
