Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College men's soccer team seeks to gain one of the two remaining berths in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) tournament when it travels to Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, on Saturday, October 31, to conclude the regular season, starting at 3:30 p.m.
Franklin enters the match in fifth place in the league standings, trailing Transylvania University by two points for fourth place – the final spot in the postseason tournament spot. Earlham currently stands third, three points ahead of the Grizzlies.
A victory for the Grizzlies clinches a tournament berth a tournament berth for the second-straight season.
Franklin stands 7-8-2 this fall and 4-3-1 in HCAC play after a 2-1 home victory over Manchester University on Wednesday.
Senior Austin Fundenberger (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) scored the game-winning goal against Manchester. The goal was his 23rd career tally and broke the school record for most goals scored in a career. Fundenberger also holds the program's record for career assist (17) and career points (63).
On the season, Fundenberger leads the Grizzlies with five goals and six assists.
Freshman Blaine Fuhs (Washington, Ind./Washington Catholic) has added four goals to the team's scoring attack, while sophomore Cam Mattern (Pittsboro, Ind./Brownsburg) ranks third with three goals. Freshman Sam Stallsmith (Cicero, Ind./Hamilton Heights) has contributed three assists on the season.
Senior goalkeeper Cody Chapman (Vincennes, Ind./Washington) has posted shutouts in four of his seven victories this fall. He has recorded 69 saves on the season.
