FRANKLIN, Ind. – With the regular season behind them, the Franklin College men's golf team will head south to the University Club of Kentucky on Saturday and Sunday (Apr. 27-28) for the first two rounds of the 2019 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Championships.
The Grizzlies and the rest of the field are chasing reigning conference champion Transylvania, who are in search of their 13th consecutive league championship. Prior to the Pioneers beginning their winning streak back in 2007, Franklin was the league's top team, winning six straight titles from 2001-06 under legendary head coach Dr. Richard Park.
Head coach Curt Holcroft will be leaning on a familiar quintet that will make the trip to Kentucky for the opening weekend. Junior Jackson Williams enters the weekend with the fifth-best scoring average in the league at 75.0 this spring, just one shot behind the conference's top scorer and reigning conference medalist in Transylvania's Spencer McKinney. Freshman Alan Showalter has had a strong debut season and his 75.9 scoring average ranks ninth among all league players.
Senior Jacob Hash heads into his final conference tournament carrying a 78.0 average and is joined by sophomore RJ Turner (79.6 avg) and junior Aubrey Seaman (80.5 avg) in making up the remainder of the Grizzly lineup.
Before they traveled to Kentucky, Showalter, Turner and Hash joined franklingrizzlies.com to discuss the opening weekend. Click on the video below to hear from the trio.
