FRANKLIN, Ind. (December 29, 2016)- The Franklin College men's basketball team defeated Cornell College 101-88 Thursday night at the Spurlock Center.
The Grizzlies saw their highest offensive output on the season, with many outstanding offensive performances contributing to the victory. Senior guard Robbie Prather led the way with 25 points, including shooting 6 of 8 from behind the arc. Junior forward John Beineke finished with 21 points and nine rebounds. Beineke was 9 of 11 from the field. Not to be outdone, senior guard Aaron Mann recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Senior forward Brett McCory added 10 points and seven rebounds while sophomore Blake Oakley chipped in nine points and dished out nine assists.
The visiting Rams had a balanced scoring attack of their own, led by Corey Davis with 20 points. Cornell received 14-point contributions from Jon Anderson, Brad Hund and Jan Siegien. They also received 13-point efforts from Grant Anderson and Craig Engle.
Despite trailing by as many as 22 points, Cornell mounted a furious second-half rally to cut the Franklin lead to one. The Grizzlies buckled down and never relinquish the lead by responding to Cornell field goals. Franklin was able to take advantage of open looks and knocked down key free throws to secure the victory.
With the win, Franklin improves to 4-5 on the season. The Grizzlies conclude their non-conference schedule by hosting Thomas More College on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. from the Spurlock Center.
