Football’s Austin Carlton Earns Lindy’s Sports Preseason All-American Honor

Franklin, Ind. - Franklin College junior offensive lineman Austin Carlton (Evansville, Ind./F.J. Reitz) has been named a second-team preseason All-American by Lindy's Sports in the magazine's 2014 NCAA Division III college football preview publication.

Carlton is coming off a 2013 season in which he was a Division III 2013 first-team All-North Region selection, by D3football.com, and earned first-team All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honors.

Carlton helped anchor Franklin's offensive unit that averaged 42.2 points per game and ranked fourth nationally with 347 passing yards per game. The Grizzlies also ranked fifth nationally in first downs (311) and sixth in third-down conversions percentage (49.5 percent).

Franklin won eight games and captured its fourth consecutive league title last fall. The team defeated Washington University-St. Louis in a home first-round playoff game – the third straight season with a postseason victory.

The Grizzlies open the 2014 season at Illinois Wesleyan University on September 6, starting at 2 p.m. The team's home opener is against defending national champion University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on September 13 at 1:30 p.m. from Faught Stadium.
