FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin College baseball team will enter the 2019 season ranked in the top-25 in two national polls.
Coming off a 39-5 year that featured an HCAC regular season and tournament championship and a berth in the NCAA Regionals, head coach Lance Marshall's team was slotted at No. 21 in the ABCA/D3Baseball rankings and 22nd nationally in the Collegiate Baseball top-40 pre-season poll.
Additionally, four Franklin opponents on the 2019 schedule enter the year either ranked or receiving votes. National powerhouse Wisconsin-Whitewater comes into the season ranked No. 2 in both polls after a 33-8 season in 2018. Both the Grizzlies and Warhawks saw their seasons end in the NCAA Central Regional at the hands of eventual national champion Texas-Tyler. The two teams will lock up on Mar. 25 down in Florida.
Early-season opponent Denison enters the year at No. 36 in the Collegiate Baseball rankings and is earning votes in the ABCA poll. Franklin and Denison will meet on Mar. 2 in Westfield, Ind. at Grand Park. The Grizzlies' final opponent of the year, Otterbein University (May 5), earned the 38th spot in the Collegiate Baseball poll and is also getting votes in the ABCA rankings. Franklin's Mar. 3 opponent in Marietta is getting votes in both pre-season rankings.
The first pitch of the 2019 season comes on Feb. 23 against Elmhurst College in Jacksonville, Ill.
