FRANKLIN, Ind. - Franklin College junior outfielder Ryan Bixler was one of a select few to be named a pre-season All-American by D3Baseball.com on Thursday (Jan. 10) afternoon.
The Logansport, Ind.-native earned the pre-season honor after a dominant sophomore season that saw him garner a slew of awards. Bixler was named Third Team All-America by D3Baseball and by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and was the 2018 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Player of the Year and Tournament MVP for a Franklin team that went 39-5 and advanced to the NCAA regional last year.
Bixler hit .369 in 2018, smacking 15 home runs and driving in 56 while playing in all 44 games. His 15 long balls were the second most in the country, trailing only teammate Frank Podkul's 16 blasts. Additionally, his 63 runs scored set a new single-season program record and he added 10 doubles, two triples and 11 stolen bases on the year. In the field, Bixler recorded 91 put outs in right field, finishing with a .989 fielding percentage.
Ryan and the Grizzlies begin the 2019 season on Feb. 23, traveling to Jacksonville, Ill. to take on Elmhurst College and MacMurray College.
