Baseball Team Rallies Late for First Win

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (Feb. 26, 2017) – The Franklin College baseball team picked up its first win of the season with a 5-4 triumph Sunday afternoon against Waynesburg University.

With the victory, the Grizzlies improve to 1-1. The game was the second on a four-game trip to Winter Haven, Fla.

Franklin trailed 4-1 after seven innings. The Grizzlies forged a 4-4 tie after scoring three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, including the tying run when junior Frank Podkul stole home.

The Grizzlies scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI single by sophomore Jordan Clark, which drove in freshman Tommy Waites. Waites pinch ran for freshman Alex Mis, who led off the inning with a double.

Junior pitcher Mitchell Caster picked up the win. The Grizzlies also received strong pitching performances from junior Aaron Leming and sophomore Ethan Adams.

In all, Franklin combined for 11 hits, including doubles by sophomore Drew Naumovich, sophomore Sam Claycamp and Mis.

On the day, Claycamp was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a run. Junior Ryan Erlandson also had an RBI for the Grizzlies.

Franklin returns to action today at 2:30 p.m. against Alma College in Winter Haven.
