North Manchester, Ind. - The Franklin College baseball team lost its opening round contest in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference double-elimination tournament to top-seeded Manchester University 8-3 on Thursday.
The Grizzlies move to the loser's bracket and will face No. 2 seed Anderson University on Friday, May 9 at 12:30 p.m.
Manchester (25-15) scored three times in the third inning to hold a 4-0 advantage.
Franklin (24-16) got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning on a wild pitch that allowed sophomore Drew Kammerer (Fortville, Ind./Mt. Vernon) to score.
However, the Spartans got a run in the fifth and sixth innings before scoring twice in the seventh inning. The hosts stretched the lead to 8-1.
Sophomore Joe Ardizzone (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) drove in two runs with a single in the top of the eighth inning. The base hit scored senior Scott Windler (Lafayette, Ind./Lafayette Central Catholic) and junior Mitch Frey (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo).
Individually, junior Jameson Brock (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) tallied three hits to lead the team's offensive attack.
