GREENWOOD, Ind. – Franklin college juniors Tyler Reed and Maddie Fleet are both bringing home Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) player of the week awards following two outstanding performances last week.
A defensive tackle on the football team, Reed collected his first weekly conference award after a strong performance on Saturday against Rose-Hulman. Reed finished with a season-high nine tackles, four solo and five assisted, and racked up 1.5 sacks for the Grizzlies as they went on to take over the top spot in the HCAC with a 29-22 win over Rose-Hulman.
The Indianapolis-native was an instrumental member of the Franklin defensive front, as the Grizzlies held the high-powered Rose-Hulman attack without a first down in the fourth quarter.
For the year, Reed has racked up 29 tackles, 2.5 sacks and 4.5 tackles for a loss.
Fleet earned her seventh career and first player of the week selection in 2017 following two dominant outings. The Indianapolis-native potted seven goals in wins over Transylvania and Earlham as Franklin moved back atop the conference.
The star striker potted three goals in the Grizzlies' 5-1 win over the Pioneers on Wednesday night and followed it up with her third hat trick and second four-goal game of the season in Saturday's win over the Quakers. Fleet leads the HCAC with 19 goals and her 44 points are also tops in the conference.
Fleet has had an impressive stint at franklin thus far totaling 68 goals and 30 assists in 53 games played.
